Macor thermal properties application

Macor machinable ceramics are ceramic materials composed of fluorite mica and borosilicate glass matrix produced by Corning Inc. It has a wide range of applications, such as aerospace, nuclear industry, and other engineering fields. Some industries have very strict requirements for thermal performance, so let's discuss the thermal performance of Macor ceramics.

Before understanding the thermal performance of Macor ceramics, let's first understand the requirements for thermal performance in these fields.

Aerospace: During the operation of spacecraft, there are alternating temperature changes in orbit, and the temperature environment requires -170 ℃~+120 ℃.  This has a great requirement for the temperature difference variation of the material, Macor ceramics can be used normally within the temperature range of -270 ℃ to 1000 ℃.

In the nuclear field, the maximum temperature for nuclear reactions is around 350 ° C, while the outlet temperature for coolant is around 500 ° C~600 ° C. In addition, the maximum temperature for the outer shell of fuel elements is around 650 ° C. In the nuclear field,  the stability and ability to maintain size in high radiation environments provided by MACO make it a key material in the nuclear industry.

Next, let's take a look at the thermal performance parameters of Macor ceramics.

Temperature resistance: The temperature resistance of Macor ceramics is extremely excellent, able to maintain performance between 270 ° C and 1000 ° C,  covering almost the entire range of alumina and boron nitride ceramics.

Thermal expansion coefficient: Its thermal expansion coefficients are 7.40 µ m/m - ° C at temperatures of -200-25.0 ° C, 9.30 µ m/m - ° C at temperatures of 25.0-300 ° C, 11.4 µ m/m - ° C at temperatures of 25.0-600 ° C, and 12.6 µ m/m - ° C at temperatures of 25.0-800 ° C.

Maximum operating temperature: Macor ceramics can reach a maximum operating temperature of 800 ° C-1000 ° C in air.  Under no-load operation, it can reach 1000 ° C, but under full load operation, the highest operating temperature is 800 ° C

Specific heat capacity: It can reach 0.790 joules per gram Celsius

summary

Macor ceramics have excellent thermal performance, but it should be noted that they are easily affected by thermal shock. Therefore, if the environment requires rapid heating and cooling cycles, it is not the best choice. This requires careful selection in the field of welding nozzles. We understand that applications in each industry have unique requirements, so we offer a wide range of customization options for Macor ceramics to ensure your specific needs are met.
